Process
Seven stages, in the order they happen.
-
01
Brief
What the building has to do, who for, and what it cannot cost more than. Written down and agreed before anything is drawn.
-
02
Site and feasibility
What the site allows, what the rules allow, and whether the brief fits inside both. This is where a project is saved or lost.
-
03
Concept design
The idea, in plan and section, at a size you can argue with. Two or three options, not one, so there is something to choose between.
-
04
Design development
The chosen option taken to real dimensions, real materials and real openings. Changes are still cheap here, and they stop being cheap next.
-
05
Approvals
The application, the consultants and the conditions. Timelines here belong to the authority, not to us, and we say so rather than guess.
-
06
Construction drawings
The set the building is priced and built from. One convention throughout, so a drawing made in month one reads against one made in month nine.
-
07
On site
Questions answered, work checked against the drawings, and decisions made when the two differ. The stage most often dropped.
